Excursions around Lake Chiemsee

Majestic and enchanting—that’s Herrenchiemsee Castle, standing proudly on its namesake island in Lake Chiemsee. Built in the 19th century by the fairytale Bavarian King Ludwig II, it was inspired by the grandeur of Versailles, complete with extensive gardens fit for royalty. Don’t miss the historic Augustinian Canons' Monastery, one of the island’s architectural gems.

Just a short boat ride away lies the Fraueninsel, home to the famous Benedictine convent, Frauenwörth. Explore its charming potteries, traditional fishery, and marvel at the two lime trees that have stood for over 1,000 years. Tip: Visit the Fraueninsel during winter to experience the magical Christmas Market - a true seasonal highlight.
